Saucony Athletes in Action

Saucony's team of elite athletes were in action at the British Miler's Club Gold Standard meeting on Saturday evening.

Leading the way was Charlene Thomas who front ran the ladies 1500m A race to the largest winning margin of the evening in 4.06.87.  In doing so Charlene ran the UKA "B" standard for the World Championships this year and now heads to the European Team championships in Stockholm this weekend with great confidence that she can ran faster.

Simon Jones was another Saucony winner with 14.06.57 in the Mens 5000m taking a full five seconds off his personal best and outkicking a quality field in the process.  James Ellis showed he is back on track with a strong, intelligent run in the same race.  Leading a small group just off the main pack for the majority of the race, James ran consistently through the field to finish in 14.34, his fastest time for six years.

Another athlete making a comeback was Rick Ward who dipped under 1.50 for the first time this season with a brave 1.49.5 in the mens 800m.  Rick returns to Watford on Wednesday in search of the qualifying time for the European U23's championship later on in the year.  With a more even paced run, the time he needs (1.48.0) is not far away.

James Bailey from Sale Harriers in Manchester made the trip south worthwhile by running aggressively in the mens 3000mS/C.  The last lap was tough for James but his 9.14 in a top quality race will prove good experience later in the season.

Ash Harrell was disappointed with his run in the mens 5000m, missing out on the U23 qualifying standard, but considering the six weeks or so he missed earlier this year, it won't be long before he's back to the level we saw over the winter.
